Surah
23, Al-Muminun (The Believers), 118 Verses & Surah 24, An-Noor, (The
Light), 64 Verses & Surah 25, Al-Furqaan (The Criterion), Verses 1-20
Chapter 18 contains one of the
most difficult Surah's to fully appreciate, Surah An-Noor, but before we get to
that, first have to go through Surah 23, Al-Muminun (The Believers). Revealed
at Mecca, it has 118 verses with 6 sections.
Surah 23, Al-Muminun(The
Believers)
Section 1: The Faithful, verses
1-22
"Successful indeed are the
believers Who are humble in their prayers, And who shun vain conversation, And
who are payers of the poor-due; And who guard their modesty." (Verses 1-5)
"And who are shepherds of their
pledge and their covenant, And who pay heed to their prayers. These are the
heirs Who will inherit paradise. There they will abide." (Verses 8-11)
"Verily We created man from a
product of wet earth; Then placed him as a drop (of seed) in a safe lodging;
Then fashioned We the drop a clot, then fashioned We the clot a little lump,
then fashioned We the little lump bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, and
then produced it as another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of
creators! Then lo! after that ye surely die. Then lo! on the Day of
Resurrection ye are raised (again)." (Verses 12-16)
The Surah starts with a
beautiful description and prescription for mankind. The Holy Prophet has said: "If a person is aware of his
insignificance in the presence of the supreme majesty of the authority of the
Lord, he will certainly manifest it in his actions done before Him." Shunning vain conversation in verse 3 has been described as anything that
detracts us from Allah, unworthy words & actions which,
perhaps controversially, includes music. We are then also advised to
protect our modesty at all times. Refinement or degradation of human soul is
the result of how one deals with the hidden workings of the sexual instincts
and it is only permissible in the secure environment of wedlock. The
reward for those who follow these instructions is paradise.
Verses 12-16 contain a remarkable description for
the creation, growth and development of humans. This all in a 7th Century book
when nothing was known about the subject, further proof of the author of this
Holy book. When we die we are then resurrected for judgement, reward and
punishment.
Sections 2 & 3: God saving
Noah and his followers & Generations raised after Noah's people, verses
23-50
"And We verily sent Noah unto his
folk, and he said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other Allah save Him.
Will ye not ward off (evil)? But the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved,
said: This is only a mortal like you who would make himself superior to you.
Had Allah willed, He surely could have sent down angels. We heard not of this
in the case of our fathers of old. He is only a man in whom is a madness, so
watch him for a while." (Verses 23-25)
"Then We inspired in him, saying:
Make the ship under Our eyes and Our inspiration. Then, when Our command cometh
and the oven gusheth water, introduce therein of every (kind) two spouses, and
thy household save him thereof against whom the Word hath already gone forth.
And plead not with Me on behalf of those who have done wrong. Lo! they will be
drowned." (Verse
27)
"And say: My Lord! Cause me to
land at a blessed landing-place, for Thou art Best of all who bring to land.
Lo! herein verily are portents, for lo! We are ever putting (mankind) to the
test." (Verses
29-30)
"Then, after them, We brought
forth another generation; And we sent among them a messenger of their own,
saying: Serve Allah, Ye have no other Allah save Him. Will ye not ward off
(evil)?" (Verses 31-32)
"And the chieftains of his folk,
who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made
soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth
of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink." (Verse 33)
"There is naught but our life of
the world; we die and we live, and we shall not be raised (again). He is only a
man who hath invented a lie about Allah. We are not going to put faith in
him." (Verses 38-37)
"So the (Awful) Cry overtook them
rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far
removal for wrongdoing folk! Then after them We brought forth other
generations." (Verses 41-42)
"Then We sent our messengers one
after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We
caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far
removal for folk who believe not!" (Verse 44)
These 2 sections deal with
Prophet Nuh and the Prophets who followed him including Hud, Saleh, Musa &
Harun. People continued to disbelieve and refuse to accept their message and
Allah would continue to punish them and destroy them before raising another
generation, another Prophet and the cycle would then repeat (verse 44).
Section 4: Islam is the
religion for all, verses 51-77
"And lo! this your religion is
one religion and I am your Lord, so keep your duty unto Me. But they (mankind)
have broken their religion among them into sects, each group rejoicing in its
tenets. So leave them in their error till a time. Think they that in the wealth
and sons wherewith We provide them We hasten unto them with good things? Nay,
but they perceive not." (Verses 52-56)
"And we task not any soul beyond
its scope, and with Us is a Record which speaketh the truth, and they will not
be wronged." (Verse 62)
"Nay, but their hearts are in
ignorance of this (Qur'an), and they have other works, besides, which they are
doing; Till when We grasp their luxurious ones with the punishment, behold!
they supplicate. Supplicate not this day! Assuredly ye will not be helped by
Us." (Verses 63-65)
"Or know they not their
messenger, and so reject him? Or say they: There is a madness in him? Nay, but
he bringeth them the Truth; and most of them are haters of the Truth. And if
the Truth had followed their desires, verily the heavens and the earth and
whosoever is therein had been corrupted. Nay, We have brought them their
Reminder, but from their Reminder they now turn away. Or dost thou ask of them
(O Muhammad) any tribute? But the bounty of thy Lord is better, for He is Best
of all who make provision." (Verses 69-72)
"And lo! those who believe not in
the Hereafter are indeed astray from the path. Though We had mercy on them and
relieved them of the harm afflicting them, they still would wander blindly on
in their contumacy. Already have We grasped them with punishment, but they
humble not themselves unto their Lord, nor do they pray, Until, when We open
for them the gate of extreme punishment, behold! they are aghast thereat." (Verses 74-77)
This section clearly described
the disbeliever and their inevitable fate on the Day of Judgement. All the
Prophets were sent to preach the same message, the unity of God but in their
confused ignorance, their followers would cut that unity into sects and
idol-worship (verse 53).
In verse 62, the record
book speaks clearly and shows exactly what each soul has done and thought, and
what is due to it in justice. The sinners will receive exact punishment and
those who believe, do good and follow the religion of Allah will receive more
than their due.
The words and deeds of the disbelievers which they say and do in confused
ignorance are described in verses 63-77. They belie
the signs of Allah and deny the Holy Prophet; and they hate the truth because
it does not agree with their inclinations. If these selfish and ignorant
creatures were to plan the working of the universe according to their desires,
it would be a dreadful world, full of confusion and corruption. The Holy
Prophet does not ask any worldly recompense from them, yet they do not listen
to him when he shows them the right path and go astray into the wilderness of
infidelity and wickedness where they abide for ever even if they are given
respite.
Section 5: Even the
disbelievers helplessly acknowledge the glory of God, verses 78-92
"He it is Who hath created for
you ears and eyes and hearts. Small thanks give ye! And He it is Who hath sown
you broadcast in the earth, and unto Him ye will be gathered. And He it is Who
giveth life and causeth death, and His is the difference of night and day. Have
ye then no sense?" (Verses 78-80)
"Say: In Whose hand is the
dominion over all things and He protecteth, while against Him there is no
protection, if ye have knowledge? They will say: Unto Allah (all that
belongeth). Say: How then are ye bewitched? Nay, but We have brought them the
Truth, and lo! they are liars." (Verses 88-90)
"Allah hath not chosen any son,
nor is there any god along with Him; else would each god have assuredly
championed that which he created, and some of them would assuredly have
overcome others. Glorified be Allah above all that they allege. Knower of the
Invisible and the Visible! and Exalted be He over all that they ascribe as
partners (unto Him)!" (Verses 91-92)
All the means by which
awareness of truth can be had are provided for man, so it is incumbent upon man
to give thanks to Allah and use these faculties to serve Him and His creatures
(verse 78). Though
people disbelieve in the Holy Prophet, when questioned about the glory of God
they have to acknowledge his presence and the creation of the heavens and the
Earth is only His. The concept of their being multiple God's is
rightly condemned in verse 91 as the result would by a disjointed
and ruined world.
Section 6: To return good for
evil and to be patient, verses 93-118
"Repel evil with that which is
better. We are Best Aware of that which they allege. And say: My Lord! I seek
refuge in Thee from suggestions of the evil ones, And I seek refuge in Thee, my
Lord, lest they be present with me, Until, when death cometh unto one of them,
he saith: My Lord! Send me back, That I may do right in that which I have left
behind! But nay! It is but a word that he speaketh; and behind them is a
barrier until the day when they are raised." (Verses 96-100)
"Then those whose scales are
heavy, they are the successful. And those whose scales are light are those who
lose their souls, in hell abiding. The fire burneth their faces, and they are
glum therein." (Verses 102-104)
"Deemed ye then that We had
created you for naught, and that ye would not be returned unto Us? Now Allah be
Exalted, the True King! There is no Allah save Him, the Lord of the Throne of
Grace. He who crieth unto any other god along with Allah hath no proof thereof.
His reckoning is only with his Lord. Lo! disbelievers will not be
successful." (Verses 115-117)
Verse 96 lays down the Islamic point of view to
deal with evil. Islam teaches man to do what is best to repel the evil. At all
events the power base of evil must be destroyed. In verse 99 the wicked cling to falsehood until
they face the reality of death. Then they ask for another chance, but it will
be too late then. The time for repentance and amendment will then have passed.
In verses 102-104, each
soul will stand on its merits. Those who have done good deeds will attain
salvation, and those who have done evil will burn in hell for ever. And in verse 115, Allah's
creation is not without a serious purpose. The life in this world is neither
vain, nor mere play or sport. What we do here will be the basis of our reward
and punishment on the day of resurrection.
Surah 23 finished and we now
move on to Surah 24, An-Noor (The Light), one of the most difficult Surah's to
fully appreciate due to its description of Allah. It was revealed at Madina,
contains 64 verses in 9 sections.
Surah An-Noor (The Light)
Section 1: Punishment for
adultery prescribed, verses 1-10
"The adulterer and the
adulteress, scourge ye each one of them (with) a hundred stripes. And let not
pity for the twain withhold you from obedience to Allah, if ye believe in Allah
and the Last Day. And let a party of believers witness their punishment. The
adulterer shall not marry save an adulteress or an idolatress, and the
adulteress none shall marry save an adulterer or an idolater. All that is
forbidden unto believers." (Verses 2-3)
"And those who accuse honourable
women but bring not four witnesses, scourge them (with) eighty stripes and
never (afterward) accept their testimony - They indeed are evil-doers - Save
those who afterward repent and make amends. (For such) lo! Allah is Forgiving,
Merciful." (Verses 4-5)
"As for those who accuse their
wives but have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them
be four testimonies, (swearing) by Allah that he is of those who speak the
truth; And yet a fifth, invoking the curse of Allah on him if he is of those
who lie. And it shall avert the punishment from her if she bear witness before
Allah four times that the thing he saith is indeed false, And a fifth (time)
that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he speaketh truth." (Verses 6-9)
This section deals with the
great sin of adultery and clearly lays out the punishment of those who are
guilty of such an act. However there are strict laws before someone can be
found guilty - if a woman is accused, there must be four credible witnesses
before she can be punished. In the case of a married woman, if her husband
accuses her four times of adultery and she denies it four times, then her
testimony outweighs the husbands. I've discussed this topic and the treatment
of women in Islam in more detail in an earlier
blog.
Section 2: The scandal against
Ayesha, verses 11-20
"Lo! they who spread the slander
are a gang among you. Deem it not a bad thing for you; nay, it is good for you.
Unto every man of them (will be paid) that which he hath earned of the sin; and
as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his will be an awful
doom. Why did not the believers, men and women, when ye heard it, think good of
their own own folk, and say: It is a manifest untruth? Why did they not produce
four witnesses? Since they produce not witnesses, they verily are liars in the sight
of Allah." (Verses 11-13)
"When ye welcomed it with your
tongues, and uttered with your mouths that whereof ye had no knowledge, ye
counted it a trifle. In the sight of Allah it is very great. Wherefor, when ye
heard it, said ye not: It is not for us to speak of this. Glory be to Thee (O
Allah)! This is awful calumny. Allah admonisheth you that ye repeat not the
like thereof ever, if ye are (in truth) believers." (Verses 15-17)
The verses in this section deal
with a scandal that enveloped Ayesha after a expedition with the Holy Prophet.
On the way back she got accidentally left behind from the main group and had to
wait in the night for a while. She was found the next morning by a companion
who escorted her on a camel (him walking in front), back to the main group.
Upon her arrival, the hypocrites tried to stir trouble and allege untruths
about her late arrival with an unknown man.
In these verses Allah condemns
the gossip-mongers who tried to spread rumours and challenged them to follow
the laws of God as mentioned in section 1 and produce four witnesses. If they
can't then it is better to remain silent otherwise face Allah's punishment for
such slander.
Section 3: Slandering chaste
women, verses 21-26
"O ye who believe! Follow not the
footsteps of the devil. Unto whomsoever followeth the footsteps of the devil,
lo! he commandeth filthiness and wrong. Had it not been for the grace of Allah
and His mercy unto you, not one of you would ever have grown pure. But Allah
causeth whom He will to grow. And Allah is Hearer, Knower. And let not those
who possess dignity and ease among you swear not to give to the near of kin and
to the needy, and to fugitives for the cause of Allah. Let them forgive and
show indulgence. Yearn ye not that Allah may forgive you? Allah is Forgiving,
Merciful." (Verses 21-22)
"Lo! as for those who traduce
virtuous, believing women (who are) careless, cursed are they in the world and
the Hereafter. Theirs will be an awful doom On the day when their tongues and
their hands and their feet testify against them as to what they used to do, On
that day Allah will pay them their just due, and they will know that Allah, He
is the Manifest Truth." (Verses 23-25)
"Vile women are for vile men, and
vile men for vile women. Good women are for good men, and good men for good
women; such are innocent of that which people say: For them is pardon and a
bountiful provision." (Verse 26)
All of the rumour and gossip
that was swirling around Ayesha was founded by the temptations of the Shaitan
and we are reminded about his actions and filthy behaviour in verse 21. Verse 22 refers to Abu Bakr (father of Ayesha)
who at the time withdrew help and support to one those who alleged
inappropriate behaviour from Ayesha - God reminds him that it is better to
forgive those in need even those who have wronged them.
Verses 23-25 remind us that to slander a chaste
woman is a great sin and will be dealt with accordingly. Our tongues and limbs
will testify against us if we do wrong. Verse 26 highlights that the wives of the Holy
Prophet are free from the impurity of adultery.
Section 4: Control and
regulation of morals, verses 27-34
"Tell the believing men to lower
their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! Allah is aware of what
they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to
display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils
over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to their own husbands
or fathers or husbands' fathers, or their sons or their husbands' sons, or
their brothers or their brothers' sons or sisters' sons, or their women, or
their slaves, or male attendants who lack vigour, or children who know naught
of women's nakedness. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what
they hide of their adornment. And turn unto Allah together, O believers, in
order that ye may succeed." (Verses 30-31)
"And marry such of you as are
solitary and the pious of your slaves and maid-servants. If they be poor, Allah
will enrich them of His bounty. Allah is of ample means, Aware. And let those
who cannot find a match keep chaste till Allah give them independence by His
grace..." (Verses 32-33)
The concept of the hijab for
both male and female is discussed in verses 30-31. Man is addressed
first and told to lower his gaze. Woman is then asked to do the same and to
cover themselves appropriately. Some people try to argue that there is no
actual mention of the headscarf and the need to cover your hair, just the
bosom. The actual line in the Holy Quran is "to draw
their veils over their bosoms," which implies that they
are already wearing veils which would naturally be covering their hair so
there's no real argument on that point. Don't get me started on the niqab
however!
Allah also strongly recommends
marriage for men and women and Allah has promised to give necessary means of
sustenance to every created being that lives in this world, so not to marry for
the fear of poverty amounts to want of trust in Allah. The normal way to a healthy
life is marriage, not celibacy, suppression of the natural urge which is given
to man for continuation of life. Celibacy is unnatural.
Section 5: God is Light, verses
35-40
"Allah is the Light of the
heavens and the earth. The similitude of His light is as a niche wherein is a
lamp. The lamp is in a glass. The glass is as it were a shining star. (This
lamp is) kindled from a blessed tree, an olive neither of the East nor of the
West, whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself) though no fire touched it.
Light upon light. Allah guideth unto His light whom He will. And Allah speaketh
to mankind in allegories, for Allah is Knower of all things." (Verse 35)
"(This lamp is found) in houses
which Allah hath allowed to be exalted and that His name shall be remembered
therein. Therein do offer praise to Him at morn and evening. Men whom neither
merchandise nor sale beguileth from remembrance of Allah and constancy in
prayer and paying to the poor their due; who fear a day when hearts and
eyeballs will be overturned; That Allah may reward them with the best of what
they did, and increase reward for them of His bounty. Allah giveth blessings
without stint to whom He will." (Verses 36-38)
"As for those who disbelieve,
their deeds are as a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one supposeth it to be
water till he cometh unto it and findeth it naught, and findeth, in the place
thereof, Allah Who payeth him his due; and Allah is swift at reckoning." (Verse 39)
Verse 35 is THE verse of the Holy Quran which
describes what Allah is like. It is impossible for us to grasp what Allah truly
encompasses do to our physical and spiritual limitations. Allah is described
here a parable of light. The physical light is but a reflection of the true
light in the realm of reality, and that true light is Allah. The performance of
light is to manifest. It is Allah who manifests the universe. The human beings
can only think of the factors of the spiritual world in terms of the phenomenal
experience obtainable through physical senses; and in the phenomenal world
light is the purest thing known to man. Due to the limitations of human
experience man cannot see the real light but perceive only the lighted objects.
The perfect light of Allah is free from any such defects. It prevails
everywhere. It envelops everything. It is independent of time and space. There
is much more detail and information about this verse, volumes of books have
been written about this single verse that we should all try to look into to
gain a better understanding about the light of Allah.
The houses in verse 36 is said to be the Holy Kaaba, the
masjid in Jerusalem and the masjid in Madina. Verse 37 describes the qualities of those who
are chosen by Allah to remember and glorify Him. They glorify Allah day and
night. No worldly involvement distracts their attention from the service,
worship and remembrance of Allah.
In verse 39 the disbelievers' fate is compared to
the disappointment of a traveller in the desert who sees false image of water
and pursues it with conviction that he will quench his thirst when he reaches
it, but as soon as he comes up to it, he finds it to be a mirage (nothing), and
dies in protracted agony.
Section 6: Everything in the
heavens and the Earth glorifies God, verses 41-50
"Hast thou not seen how Allah
wafteth the clouds, then gathereth them, then maketh them layers, and thou
seest the rain come forth from between them; He sendeth down from the heaven
mountains wherein is hail, and smiteth therewith whom He will, and averteth it
from whom He will. The flashing of His lightning all but snatcheth away the
sight." (Verse 43)
"Allah hath created every animal
of water. Of them is (a kind) that goeth upon its belly and (a kind) that goeth
upon two legs and (a kind) that goeth upon four. Allah createth what He will.
Lo! Allah is Able to do all things." (Verse 45)
"Verily We have sent down
revelations and explained them. Allah guideth whom He will unto a straight
path. And they say: We believe in Allah and the messenger, and we obey; then
after that a faction of them turn away. Such are not believers. And they say: We
believe in Allah and the messenger, and we obey; then after that a faction of
them turn away. Such are not believers. But if right had been with them they
would have come unto him willingly." (Verse 46-49)
Every being celebrates the praises of Allah. Each one has his own mode of
prayer and praise. In verse 43 Allah describes how the clouds form
together to send down rain, hail and lightning.
Verses 46-49 were revealed during a dispute between
Imam Ali (as) and Uthman. Uthman did not want the Holy Prophet to adjudicate
between them as he feared that he would rule in Imam Ali's (as) favour. He
wanted a Jew to rule on their disagreement. The Jew asked Uthman how could he
doubt the ruling of the Holy Prophet who only said what he was commanded to by
Allah and Uthman was an apparent follower.
Section 7: Establishment of
Islamic Kingdom promised, verses 51-57
"Say: Obey Allah and obey the
messenger. But if ye turn away, then (it is) for him (to do) only that
wherewith he hath been charged, and for you (to do) only that wherewith ye have
been charged. If ye obey him, ye will go aright. But the messenger hath no
other charge than to convey (the message) plainly." (Verse 54)
"Allah hath promised such of you
as believe and do good work that He will surely make them to succeed (the
present rulers) in the earth even as He caused those who were before them to
succeed (others); and that He will surely establish for them their religion
which He hath approved for them, and will give them in exchange safety after
their fear. They serve Me. They ascribe no thing as partner unto Me. Those who
disbelieve henceforth, they are the miscreants." (Verse 55)
Verse 55 refers to the time when the 12th Holy
Imam will rule the Earth inshallah. You can read more about the coming of the
12th Imam on another blog.
Section 8: Respect for domestic
and personal privacy, verses 58-61
"O ye who believe! Let your
slaves, and those of you who have not come to puberty, ask leave of you at
three times (before they come into your presence): Before the prayer of dawn,
and when ye lay aside your raiment for the heat of noon, and after the prayer
of night. Three times of privacy for you. It is no sin for them or for you at
other times, when some of you go round attendant upon others (if they come into
your presence without leave). Thus Allah maketh clear the revelations for you.
Allah is Knower, Wise." (Verse 58)
"As for women past child-bearing,
who have no hope of marriage, it is no sin for them if they discard their
(outer) clothing in such a way as not to show adornment. But to refrain is
better for them. Allah is Hearer, Knower." (Verse 60)
Section 9: Not to act without
the apostle's permission, verses 62-64
"They only are the true believers
who believe in Allah and His messenger and, when they are with him on some
common errand, go not away until they have asked leave of him. Lo! those who
ask leave of thee, those are they who believe in Allah and His messenger. So,
if they ask thy leave for some affair of theirs, give leave to whom thou wilt
of them, and ask for them forgiveness of Allah. Lo! Allah is Forgiving,
Merciful." (Verse 62)
"Lo! verily unto Allah belongeth
whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth. He knoweth your condition. And (He
knoweth) the Day when they are returned unto Him so that He may inform them of
what they did. Allah is Knower of all things." (Verse 64)
The Surah ends with a further
reminder about the value and importance of remembrance towards Allah and his
messenger and not to act without permission of the Holy Prophet.
We move on to Surah 25, Al-Furqan
(The Criterion) which was revealed in Mecca, it has 77 verses in 6 sections.
Chapter 18 has the first 2 sections.
Surah 25, Al-Furqan (The
Criterion)
Section 1: The Holy Prophet a
warner to the whole world, verses 1-9
"Blessed is He Who hath revealed
unto His slave the Criterion (of right and wrong), that he may be a warner to
the peoples." (Verse
1)
"Those who disbelieve say: This
is naught but a lie that he hath invented, and other folk have helped him with
it, so that they have produced a slander and a lie. And they say: Fables of the
men of old which he hath had written down so that they are dictated to him morn
and evening." (Verses 4-5)
"And they say: What aileth this
messenger (of Allah) that he eateth food and walketh in the markets? Why is not
an angel sent down unto him, to be a warner with him. Or (why is not) treasure
thrown down unto him, or why hath he not a paradise from whence to eat? And the
evil-doers say: Ye are but following a man bewitched. See how they coin
similitudes for thee, so that they are all astray and cannot find a road!" (Verses 7-9)
The Quran was revealed to the Holy Prophet as light and guidance to show the
right path to all mankind in every age. The mission of the Holy Prophet is
universal. He came as a warner to all creatures. The disbelievers said that the
Quran was invented by the Holy Prophet with the aid of other people, the Jews
and the Christians. In fact their charges were false. They resorted to
falsehood due to their habit of iniquity. The Holy Prophet was sent to give
practical example to mankind as to how a human being should live in this world
by following the commands and injunctions of the religion of Allah. Angels
would be no use to people as messengers, and if they came, it might cause more
confusion and wonder than understanding in the minds of the people.
Section 2: The bounties
awaiting the Holy Prophet, verses 11-20
"Nay, but they deny (the coming
of) the Hour, and for those who deny (the coming of) the Hour We have prepared
a flame. When it seeth them from afar, they hear the crackling and the roar
thereof. And when they are flung into a narrow place thereof, chained together,
they pray for destruction there. Pray not that day for one destruction, but
pray for many destructions!" (Verses 11-14)
"And on the day when He will
assemble them and that which they worship instead of Allah and will say: Was it
ye who misled these my slaves or did they (themselves) wander from the way?
They will say: Be Thou Glorified! it was not for us to choose any protecting
friends beside thee; but Thou didst give them and their fathers ease till they
forgot the warning and became lost folk." (Verses 17-18)
"We never sent before thee any
messengers but lo! they verily ate food and walked in the markets. And We have
appointed some of you a test for others: Will ye be steadfast? And thy Lord is
ever Seer." (Verse 20)
Once again the Holy Quran
addresses what will happen to the disbelievers and idol-worshipers who
will be brought to account in front of their idols. They will deny ever asking
for their worship and God's punishment will be severe.
That concludes Chapter 18 and I
will continue with the rest of Surah 25 tomorrow inshallah and then cover
Surahs 26 & 27.
Thank you for reading.
